This band sucks lol
What happened to that other video you made about Smile and the rest of Brian's life? I love this and that video!
Educate me
Great video. Modest mouse is very near and dear to me as well. I grew up in Bothell and South Whidbey Island. When I was older I spent a lot of time in Bellingham. I always felt like their music reflected the landscapes in some way. 'Building Nothing out of Something' will always remind me of going camping on the coast cause I always listened to that album on the drive.
Man, being sober sucks. I need some whiskey and an Oz of bud. I quit cold turkey 3 or 4 yrs ago and it fkng sux
TRES »Heavy!!!
interesting
I just watched your in depth look at the genre of Film Noir. Bravo sir! Your pacing and attention to all aspects of what made film noir so unique was exceptional. I am a hugh fan of it and am always inspired by it even in many of my current projects. I will watch this again and again as it is done so well. Thank you.
What a great documentary. Thanks for this. Made me go back into the bowels of my collection and reintroduce me to what made me love Modest Mouse in the first place. Well done sir!!!
Thanks!
Drugs ruined him
This was a great help for my novel. The main character is designed as a sort of "parody" of film noir protagonists.
❤
Again another very well summation of Neo noir, and I would also like to commend you for being so vocal against the abhorrent behavior of Roman Polanski and his fleeing from Justice a lot of people say nothing about that and I think that that silence is very telling.
I think you did a really good analysis, I didn't hear you mention that one of the big things about voice overs in film noir is because a lot of the actors had been working on radio before then as well and so they were emulating some of that style of the radio broadcast dramas
You never mentioned the Issue With "Harvey Danger".. It almost broke them up..
I had no idea what a make chauvinist pig he was!
I seriously said "no way" right before you said "yup, look it up". That is so sad but it didn't seem to slow down Brian Wilson at all.
Did not think much about him until I saw him on Howard Stern. He was such a genuine person who stood by his beliefs and I respect him so much for that.
The Flaming Lips are one. The clearest reference is at the end of The Big 'Ol Bug Is The New Baby Now. Which is the final track and ends with barking dogs an allusion to the ending of Pet Sounds with the barking from Caroline No
I love revisiting this video. I don't like to say "Beatles or Beach Boys?" I say "The Beach Boys AND The Beatles. Why noy have both?" Comparing is fun, but putting one down in favor of another is just lame and ill-informed. Also, I adore the post pet sounds releases, especially Smiley Smile-Sunflower. They were one of first to do roots rock during the psyc era!!! Long live Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, Blondie Chaplin, Rickie Fatarr and not an official member, John Stamos. May your music live on Forever!!!
I am sorry to have felt compelled to comment ...... because the rest is articulate - interesting - and on the money...... Without prejudice - I would say possibly review ''good-bye'' and possibly reply in kind..
Sorry all good choices except '' the much too long goodbye " This film destroys the Chandler story ... has a very clunky storyline -- some terrible performances -- and has a very very lame ending that is just unworthy of a Noir. So, comparing it in anyway to "Chinatown" -- really ??? This is a terrible '''attempted irony''' that misses the mark and lands in the land of neo-kitch-noir
Funny enough, doo wop had a greater influence in garage rock and Roll Proto punk than rockabilly did
Joker was not a retelling of Taxi Driver. That is a lazy comparison. There are key differences even if there are similarities.
I remember when they were just old late night movies on TV. And cracking good ones, too.
0:43 Look, Argentina!
Terrific work, thank you! I might add Frank Darabont's Mob City TV series. That was great
Love love the Teenagers
A true visionary
Amazing video.
Chuck Berry is credited as a writer of Surfin USA
I think Brian was a cutie patootie. I would have gone after him over Dennis.
to be fair if it weren't for Landy, Brian would 100% be dead.
According to Isaac directly, a lot of your facts are just wrong. He says it started as he and Jeremiah, Eric came later. And I thought they were only nominated (multiple times), but haven't won a Grammy. Pretty sure about that, as Isaac has said it several times that I've heard.
I believe it was 97 and MM played two shows in Chicago on the same night across town from each other. An early show at Schubas and a later show at Empty Bottle. Both shows were amazing. Golden years.
I never saw SpongeBob. I did see Tiny Tim's performances on television and I had his records (still do).
Demonic..
I’m surprised to know that The Man Who Wasn’t There wasn’t and Fargo by the Coen Brothers weren’t even included in this video! In my opinion, I consider them also to be part of the neo-noir spectrum and both are great films as well!
I heard an interview where he attributed Pet Sounds and Smile to drugs. I think his genius is attributed to much more than drugs. His genius is a gift that very few people have, and even fewer utilize.
My favorite band of all time.
Nice video 👍
Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
These videos have got me back into modest mouse from all the way back since 2012 when I was teenager, I listened to them so much I didn’t like them anymore like remember playing them so much and being obsessed with their style of music, that never really happened to me before now I’m 30 Years old. Honestly Isaac is one of those real meaningful musicians in my life he has made his impact in some way or another
So wish Buddy Holly would of lived
They suck the life right out of you if you let them.
Does this parallel the movement to make G-MEN look good to help propagandaize and turn the public opinion away from praising gangsters and such
Modest mouse is like a post punk post rock kind of band with philosophical and cynical lyrics about life
I love modest mouse regardless.. I see every show I can when they come through Missoula MT and the song A Different City brought me here. I heard that song and moved out here in a month. They're amazing 🤩
